SSMMGIF Version 1.51 11-NOV-98 SSMMGIF is an MMGIF Screen Saver shell. The screen saver allows any number of MMGIF, GIF and JPG files to be used as a screen saver. The SSMMGIF Screen Saver is installed in the Windows directory during program installation. See below for configuration details. MANUAL INSTALL The first step is to unzip the SSMMGIFX.EXE and related files (including the one you are reading) to either a diskette, or a temporary directory on your hard drive. The driver will be installed from this location (make note of the disk drive letter and directory name). To begin installation, run the SETUP.EXE program using Program Manager menu File/Run... or File Manager -- it will prompt you for any necessary information. If, for any reason the installation fails, SSMMGIF can be installed manually: copy the ssmgutil.dll, midilib.dll and midilser.tsk files to the Windows SYSTEM directory. Copy all other files to the Windows directory. To get you started, and provide an example, an MMGIF (torben.mmg) is installed along with the screen saver to the Windows directory. A set list (ssmmgif.ssl) is also installed, ready to play torben.mmg. MMGIF SCREEN SAVER CONFIGURATION Windows 3.1 Launch the Windows Control Panel, and double-click on the Desktop Icon. About half-way down the left column you'll see the screen saver section Select "MMGIF Screen Saver" from the list. You may now enter the amount of inactivity time to wait before the MMGIF Screen Saver is launched. To configure the screen saver press the SETUP button. To access configuration help, press the HELP button or press F1. Windows 95 Right-click the mouse on the desktop and select "properties". A tabbed dialog box appears: select the "Screen Saver" tab. Select "SSMMGIF" from the list of screen savers. You may now enter the amount of inactivity time to wait before the MMGIF Screen Saver is launched. To configure the screen saver press the Settings... button. To access configuration help, press the HELP button or press F1. Notes SSMMGIF reads and expands all images within an MMGIF into memory before playback begins. Because of this, if there are many large applications loaded into memory when SSMMGIF begins, there may not be enough memory to perform a file unless other applications are first closed. If you wish to create program group ICONs for SSMMGIF in Windows 3.1 you must first edit the WIN.INI file and append the "scr" program type to the programs= line in the [Windows] section. Example: [windows] ; Programs=com exe bat pif ; this is the existing line...change it to: Programs=com exe bat pif scr Next, use Program Manager menu: File/New -> Program Item. In the command line use: "SSMMGIF.SCR /C" for a configuration icon or "SSMMGIF.SCR /S" to launch the screen saver. If you are running Windows 95 you can simply make a shortcut to SSMMGIF.SCR and then right-click and select Configure or Install. You can double-click on the shortcut to launch SSMMGIF. REGISTRATION SSMMGIF Screen Saver is freeware -- you may use it without charge or royalties. We will make all attempts to correct any problems that may arise.
