so i use windows xp pro service pack2---sonar cakewalk daw 8.5---mobile presonus firewire soundcard.so I have a standalone virtual dj software and I want to wire it up so I can record my preformance in sonar could ya help me?how do i set up those items with midi ox and yoke already installed but i can't figure out what i need to do.

Hi
You can think of MidiYoke is basically a piece of wire.
Midi --> MidiYoke1 ---> Midi

So set your Midi output in the DJ software to MidiYoke1.
Set the Sonar Midi input on your track to MidiYoke1.

Set the Sonar Midi output for that track to where ever the DJ software is normally is sent, the Presonus I'm guessing.

DJ --> MidiYoke1 --> Sonar --> Presonus ---> Synth

Set the Sonar track to record and start Sonar recording a Midi track.

Alt + Tab to flip over to the DJ software and blast away.

The midi from the DJ software should be sent to the Sonar track input via MidiYoke1, recorded and echoed to the Presonus to drive the noise machine (synth?).

At the end use Alt + Tab to flip back to Sonar and stop the Midi recording.

i don't know how to set up midi ox.ya stated midi yoke 1 but it's located in midi ox confusing.please explain how to set up midi ox.i went to purple icon 3 rd. from right choose 1.in from midi yoke 1 midi.also out from midi yoke 1.is this correct?

virtual dj doesn't offer this.
"Outputs – Select the preferred output configuration from this pull-down list. Please note that,
depending on your sound card, some output options may not be available for use. Choices are ―Single
Output‖, ―Headphones‖, ―External Mixer‖ (2 channel output), or ―3-Lines Mixer‖ (3 channel output) and
Advanced Config."

sonar doesn't see it

what do ya mean by synth?

image line deckadance and ni traktor offers standalone and vst.maybe what ya stated will work with this.

Hi Jack

I see, you are saying that Virtual DJ is an audio program.

Midi is not audio !
Midi is just instructions - 'play middle C, now play Eb really loud' etc
These instructions are turned into audio by a synth.

So Midi Ox and Midi Yoke are useless to you for this purpose.

Check out Jack. It is like MidiYoke, but for Audio.

Output Virtual DJ to the Jack audio device.
Instead of a Midi track in Sonar you need to set up an audio track to record the output of Jack as I explained for Midi and MidiYoke.

sorry about the confusion.
I've never used the DJ software at all, so when you asked about it and MidiOx I assumed that you were talking about Midi manipulation of a sampler or synth.

From their web page it doesn't look like they do anything with Midi.

BUT if there is an option to set up a Midi output in the DJ software then
DJ --> MidiYoke1 --> Sonar --> Presonus ---> Sampler/Synth
is the way to do it

supposedly image line deckadance 1.62 (older version) have all in one a vst and standalone.but i still figure out how to configure vst.i really appreciate you taking your valuable time to guide me.thanks so much,

Firstly, It doesn't look like VirtualDJ has any midi stuff in it, so I don't think MidiYoke or MidiOx is any use with VirtualDJ.

You don't say if there is Midi interface in your Presonus interface but I will assume it is a Firestudio Mobile and that has Midi In/Out on it.

If you have external synthesizes or you are using VST synthesisers in Sonar then you can use Midi in a number of ways.

For example....
Hardware keyboard -> Presonus interface -> Cakewalk Sonar -> VST synth.
Hardware keyboard -> Presonus interface -> Cakewalk Sonar -> Presonus interface -> hardware synthesiser.

99% of the time this is fine and you don't need MidiOx or MidiYoke.

image line deckadance (I can only see v2.0 on the web) can connect up to at least one controller perhaps more.

Hardware controller -> Presonus interface -> deckadance

It should do everything for you and so again you don't need MidiOx or MidiYoke.

If you are having problems or want to do something special....
MidiOx lets you see what Midi Messages are coming into your Presonus.
MidiOx lets you filter or change the Midi data as it comes into the computer
MidiOx lets you merge Midi data from different sources.

MidiYoke lets you connect Midi applications that are running at the same time.
Midi Yoke lets you see what data is coming out of a Midi application.

I hope that helps.
If it doesn't you will have to be very specific about what you are trying to do...exactly.

That is, what Midi stuff are you using (controllers and software) and what won't it do that you want it to do.

firestudio has break out and this is it's midi connector.i use axiom 61 key controller.

Use View menu to set up like mine till you get use to it.

Use Options MIDI Devices to set up your Midi hardware.
Note that I have changed the 3 letter names by Options/Customize Port Names (use F2)

Now you are ready to go. Play a few notes on your controller and the data should appear on the Input window.

Left click and drag to make a connection on the Midi Port Routing window from your controller to some other Midi out.

Now when you play the controller the Midi messages are sent to that output.

Note that on my setup 'Y1>' means MidiYoke1 input and similarly '>Y2' is the output port of MidiYoke2.

If you connect your controller in the Midi Port Routing window to MidiYoke 1 output then it will come back into MidiOx at the MidiYoke1 input.

This would be the normal setup to use MidiOx to do something to the Midi messages before you sent them to a synthesiser or sampler.

When I wrote 'Synth' I meant anything that can be controlled by Midi.

To set up your virtual DJ software to record your performance in Sonar, you'll need to establish a connection between the two applications using MIDI-OX and a virtual MIDI cable like MIDI Yoke. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do this:

Download and Install MIDI-OX and MIDI Yoke:

Make sure you've already installed MIDI-OX and MIDI Yoke, which you mentioned you have.
Open MIDI-OX:

Launch MIDI-OX on your Windows XP computer.
Configure Virtual DJ:

Open your virtual DJ software (e.g., Virtual DJ) and go to the settings or preferences.
Look for the MIDI settings within the virtual DJ software.
Map MIDI Output to MIDI Yoke:

In the virtual DJ settings, find the option to map MIDI output or MIDI controller.
Set the MIDI output of your virtual DJ software to MIDI Yoke (e.g., MIDI Yoke 1 or any available port). This step allows Virtual DJ to send MIDI data to MIDI Yoke.
