Title: Midi-Ox and Behringer V-Amp2 for guitar Post by Lelex on Aug 13th, 2005, 12:09pm Hi there! First of all I must admit I'm totally new to this and far from being skilled concerning computers and so on.... :-[ I've bought 2 weeks ago a guitar effect processor called Behringer V-Amp2 and I've no problem to play guitar with it. In the Behringer home-page there's a section where I can download patches straight in my V-amp2 in SysEx format. I've tried to do it with Midi-Ox,but..... nothing! My PC runs Windows XP with Creative Sound Blaster PCI. I've connected the SoundBlaster to the V-Amp2 with a midi-cable, (this cable features a 15pin tap for connect to the Sound Blaster and, to the other end, two 5 pin taps for connecting to the midi-in and midi-out of the V-Amp2). I prepare the V-Amp2 to send/receive, I've also controlled that Midi-Ox is not firewalled, I run Midi-Ox and it says: opened midi input - opened midi output. REC SYX and LOG buttons are blue (the semaphore is green), the "Pass SysEx" is enabled by default. If I load a SysEx file in Midi-Ox,another windows called "SysEx View and Scratchpad" opens automatically and it contains letters and numbers. I've copied all that in the display window. I choose send/receive SysEx from "command window", because I would like that patch/sound on my V-Amp but it answer (wait for completion) 0 bytes received. I don't press the button "OK" soon, like instruction says, but is always 0 bytes. I don't know what more I have to do! Is there someone that can guide me to clear up my confusion? I've read all the instructions that I've found ( :o), but I can't go far away from this situation ( :'() ..... thanx. |

Title: Re: Midi-Ox and Behringer V-Amp2 for guitar Post by Jamie OConnell on Aug 13th, 2005, 12:54pm Do not use Send/Receive SysEx unless you are sending a custom string that will cause the VAMP to dump its guts, Instead, just use Send SysEx to send a loaded bulk dump (.SYX file) to the VAMP. Use SysEx | Receive Manual Dump... to capture a SysEx dump that you initiate from the VAMP. You can then save that dump as a .SYX file. |

Title: Re: Midi-Ox and Behringer V-Amp2 for guitar Post by Jamie OConnell on Aug 14th, 2005, 12:52pm What part doesn't work? Are you trying to transfer from MIDI-OX to the VAMP, or from the VAMP to MIDI-OX? Does one work and the other not or...? Please describe what you are trying and what happens. If you are trying to send from MIDI-OX to the VAMP make sure that you have some delays set in SysEx | Configure... in the SysEx view (try 120 Milliseconds after F7). Make sure that in the Routing View you have the MIDI-OX Event Port routed to your output port. Make sure you are using the appropriate Menu in the SysEx view (Command Window menu for the top pane, Display Window menu for the bottom pane), depending on where you've loaded the .SYX file. |

Title: Re: Midi-Ox and Behringer V-Amp2 for guitar Post by Lelex on Aug 14th, 2005, 2:15pm Hello Jamie! :D I'm trying to transfer from midi-ox to the V-amp2. I have this ".sys" file downloaded from the VAMP website bank, I open it with Midi-ox,and I see all those couples of numbers in the command window menu. I select "send sysex" from "command window",but the VAMP doesn't receive. If I copy those datas in the display window and I do "send sysex" from display window menu it doesn't work. I've tryed to give 120msec after f7 as you say. I don't know how to route Midi-Ox to output port, maybe that is the problem. In the midi port routing scheme I see 4 ports (Creative Sound Blaster MPU-401 and Midi-Ox Event port as input ports , and Sint. SW Microsoft GS wavetable and Creative Sound Blaster MPU-401 as output ports) all linked. If I do one click on one of these links a Connection Properties windows opens and I see 16 channells all selected, three systems (common - realtime - exclusive) all three selected, map file <none>, but if I select _MOXSYSMAP1.oxm and click OK,the port link turns green, but I don't know if I'm doing right, and what port of these four I have to choose. Bye :-/ |

Don't attach the _MOXSYSMAP1.OXM to a port connection. That file is intended only for MIDI-OX internal use. You don't need to attach any map unless you need it. Just to check: you have the Creative Sound Blaster MPU-401 OUTPUT port connected to the VAMP INPUT port via a MIDI cable right? Remeber it's very important with MIDI to attach OUT to IN and IN to OUT. Make sure that the VAMP is set to the same device number that is set in the .SYX file. Have you tried initiating a Dump on the VAMP and capturing it in MIDI-OX (With the VAMP OUTPUT port attached to the Creative Sound Blaster MPU-401 INPUT port)? You can capture it in MIDI-OX SysEx view by choosing SysEx | Receive Manual Dump... If that is working then we can revisit sending from MIDI-OX to the VAMP. |
