Title: Freeze on exiting Cubase SX in XP with midiyoke

:-[ What do I do wrong? De-activating midiyoke inputs in cubase sx makes the program freeze.
Also on exiting Cubase an error occurs. I used to work with Hubi's in Win98, I had no troubles at all. With so many happy  :) users of Midiyoke, I'm sure it should work fine

;D Regards Rob

I hope anybody with more information regarding Cubase SX on Windows XP will jump in with an answer.

Realize that Win XP is fundamentally different from Win 98, Cubase SX is fundamentally different froim previous versions, and MIDI Yoke NT is completely different code than MIDI Yoke 9x or Hubi's; so you are bound to see some differences in behavior.

I'm a long-time Midi-OX/MidiYoke user (great program, Jamie!) also having problems with MidiYokeNT under WinXP, both with CubaseSX 1.02 and Sibelius 2.11.  My systems really slows down (appears to lock-up) when using external Midi keyboards via my MidiMan MidiSport 4X4 USB interface.  Typically, I can't even shutdown the system without a power-cycle.  Every other midi function works fine on my system (no other strange behavior).

My typical configuration has physical midi input ports going into MidiOx, then MidiOx going into MidiYoke, then Cubase/Sibelius input from MidiYoke.  I have the loop detection enabled, but this does not seem to be the problem as it makes no difference.  Also, if I use VST instruments only in CubaseSX, everything works fine.  Only when I use the external midi devices does the problem occur.

If I connect the MidiSport input port directly to CubaseSX (bypass MidiOx/MidiYoke), the symptoms do not occur.  I also isolated the behavior to MidiYoke by inserting an actual midi Out/In port loop to simulate MidiYoke (input1 -> Midi-OX -> outport2 -> inport2->apps), and this works fine.  The symptoms are reproducable immediately if MidiYoke is used.

Any ideas, suggestions, things to try to help isolate what's going on?

Does Cubase SX still use their SetupMME utility to configure MIDI ports?  If so, make sure you do not have a MIDI Yoke loopback going on inside Cubase (Cubase output to input).

On previous versions of Cubase, some users needed to start MIDI-OX first (before Cubase).  Does this make a difference for you?

I have posted a .reg file to reduce the priorities that MIDI Yoke uses for thread creation.  You should try using that too:

CubaseSX does not use SetupMME.  It has a device setup dialog that allows you to activate different midi devices.  I have all inputs deactivated except MidiYoke1.  It also has emulated midi ports for DirectMusic.  I'm not clear how these actually work.  Sibelius also has a devices setup dialog and only one input can be active at a time. I have checked for midi loops in CubaseSX - I have not found any and have simplified the midi config to limit this.  The other strange thing is that Cubase VST (still on my system) and Reason do not have this problem with MidiYoke.  It's only these two apps.

I do start Midi-Ox first and have it running as an icon in the systray.  I tried the suggested registry settings - no difference.  It sure seems like a midi loop in behavior, but I can't understand what's causing it if it's there.  Also, if it was a midi loop it seems like the MidiYoke looping mechanism would detect this, since without MidiYoke the symptoms go away.

I was wondering if these apps don't write directly to the specified input midi port (versus the specified output port) for certain operations (E.g., selecting a patch?).  I doubt this is going on, but grasping at ideas.  Hmmm...

Sorry, but I'm fresh out of ideas, except for the fact that I forgot to tell you that you have to reboot before the registry thing takes effect.  I somethimes run XP for weeks at a time without rebooting, so I know how rare that can be.

You might try the other virtual driver to see if it works better for you: http://www.ntonyx.com/matrix.html
