Title: P4 Hyper-threading
Post by niacin on Nov 4th, 2003, 12:36am
I believe I may have found a problem with MIDI Yoke and Intel P4s with hyper-threading.

I recently upgraded my system to an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe and started experiencing a severe stuck note problem when using MIDI yoke.  After hours of trying to find the cause of the problem I finally discovered that disabling hyper-threading in the BIOS fixed the problem.

Thank you for the great products.  I hope that a future version will address this problem.

I use MIDI Yoke regularly on a dual processor machine without any problems at all.

What other software were you using with MIDI Yoke, as it may be that software which has the problem with hyperthreading?  For example, I know that Native Instruments B4 has a severe problem with stuck notes and hyperthreading or dual processors.

Hello Jamie,

Yes, I am using NI B4!  The problem only appeared when I added MIDI Yoke into the path.

I apologize for assuming it was Midi Yoke.

I will now lodge a complaint with Native Instruments.  Feel free to remove this thread from the Bug List.

Thank you.

For what it's worth, there is a thread on NI's Forum that I have participated in about this very subject.  The temporary work-around is to either disable hyper-threading, or to set the processor affinity (in Task Manager) to a single processor after starting B4.  The latter is my only option as I'm using an actual dual processor machine.  In my case, I get the stuck notes without MIDI Yoke involved at all.

I'll keep the thread as it may assist others.  ;)
