Title: Glimmer of hope for XP MIDI Yoke? Post by Q on Nov 6th, 2002, 2:12pm We can add MIDIviaNET (formerly Midi Replicator Driver) as another MIDI-Node program that has installation problems in WinXP. The author gave up on me 5 months ago, as I could not get his software to work on XP. Because of my workload, re-installation and/or experimentation was not an option. However, recent developments have forced his hand, as so many users experienced the same problem that the author has had to deal with it. He's had the following to say (from his unfortunately badly translated German): "On NT platform in some cases the application cannot load the driver (by multimedia subsystem) or its part. That's why some applications on some computers don't show MOL devices. I.e. every application gets different information from its own copy of multimedia subsystem. We're working to solve such a problem." I don't know if this will help anyone here. The author claims he'll have a fix within the week. I just tried MIDI-Yoke because I desperately need a solution to this issue, and found people as stumped here has elsewhere. Maybe programmers don't fully understand this aspect of XP yet. Then again, we ALL know Microsoft doesn't understand musicans... Q |

Title: Re: Glimmer of hope for XP MIDI Yoke? Post by Jamie OConnell on Nov 7th, 2002, 1:51am Part of the problem is that the installation is performed completely by Windows. Here is the full text of the installer .INF file: [disks] 1 =. ,"MIDI Yoke Junction Driver",disk1 [Installable.Drivers] MYokeNT = 1:myokent.dll, "MIDI", "MIDI Yoke NT Driver",,, [MyokeNT] |

Title: Re: Glimmer of hope for XP MIDI Yoke? Post by Q on Nov 7th, 2002, 8:36am Thanks for replying Jamie! However, not being a programmer, the above is meaningless to me. I assume you're still in the dark as to why the installation sometimes succeeds and sometimes fails. Most every musician "optimizes" their XP by disabling automated tasks and services (musicxp.net). Could a disabled service or registry tweak be the issue? This might explain why the install sometimes succeeds on fresh installations. Thanks. Q |

Title: Re: Glimmer of hope for XP MIDI Yoke? Post by lxworld on Nov 7th, 2002, 9:02pm I've just tried installing Midi Replicator Driver 2.02 as I was having trouble installing MIDI Yoke on XP and have run into the same problem i.e. it does not install properly. Two virtual MIDI cables not working in XP is more than a coincidence. |

That's right. My point was that Windows handles the entire installation given those intructions. It's basically saying "Here, install this". |
