Using a mid file player and Ox at same time?

I have a midi file player that I use live on gigs (Van Basco's) that works well...playlists, etc. I'm thinking of switching to a different tone module but don't want to have to convert all my files to make all the sounds correct. Can I run a MIDI Ox map and my midi file player at the same time on one laptop? I've experimented a bit at home but if I open both apps I get an error message. I imagine both programs are trying to use my MIDI cable interface and can't. Any ideas? Thanks!

It sounds like you want:
[MIDI File Player] -> [MIDI OX] -> [MIDI Module]
so that MIDI OX gets to do some work on the output of the player before it hits the module.

It sounds like you're trying:
[MIDI File Player]-\_ [MIDI Module]
[MIDI OX]--------/
with both applications trying to write to the module at the same time (and MIDI OX not seeing the player's output, either!).

So... Realise that the second is wrong Wink and let's see how to do the first.

If "MIDI File Player" and "MIDI OX" were hardware boxes, you'd run a cable from one to the other.  But they're software!  So what do you do?  Well, you run a software cable between them.

It's called MIDI Yoke, it's on the front page of the site.

In the MIDI File Player, you open an output like "Out to MIDI Yoke 1".  In MIDI OX, you open an input like "In from MIDI Yoke 1".  In MIDI OX, you open an output for the module.  (If it's also software, you'll need another MIDI Yoke software cable.)
