Install Midi Yoke 1.74 on XP64

Hi -
I know it's not officially supported, but I'm trying to install Midi Yoke 1.74 on Windows XP64. I've read that some others have had success, so I'm giving it a try. I understand it won't work with any 64-bit apps, but I only need to use it with 32-bit apps, so I think I'll be ok.

But when I install it, I don't see any midi ports in the Control Panel | Audio | Midi Music Playback list. It installs fine, and I reboot afterwards (done it 2 or 3 times now), but it doesn't show any midi ports.

Is there something I'm missing, or that I should be doing to enable it to show the available MIDI ports?

Thanks!

Hi -

Not sure what that means... what does 'show up in Midi Ox' mean? I don't see any program group or icon or anything. Where should I look?

Thanks.

Ok, I figured out what you meant - I installed MidiOx and it does not show any Midi ports. In fact it kicks up a message when I start it saying there are no devices.

I completely re-installed Windows XP x64, too, just in case I messed something up. But still doesn't show up, even with a completely clean x64 install. Can you think of anything I might be missing?

Thanks.

Ok, for anyone interested, I figured out what the problem was: Remoted Desktop. I had been working with this machine remotely almost exclusively, via Remote Desktop, and it installs a virtual sound card when you connect (called the RDP Audio card or something), and apparently it takes over your audio drivers etc., and doesn't like Midi Yoke. As soon as I logged in locally - viola! Midi Yoke ports.

Hope this might help someone.

Thanks.

Yeah, MS really dropped the ball on using MIDI ports in general over RDesk.

Hi,

I'm not using Remote Desktop, I'm sitting here in front of my computer, but for the life of me I cannot get midi yoke working with XP Pro x64 Sad

How do you do it? The .MSI installer says that the installation completed successfully, but after rebooting there are no MIDI ports anywhere.

Manual installation is impossible, because the "Add new hardware" wizard always complains about this:
Quote:
The specified location does not contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the location contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.

How do you guys manage to install itHuh

I don't believe the Midi Yoke ports show in the Windows setup window, if that's where you're looking, only in Cubase (in my case). But they do work. Quirky, but they do work.

What sequencer are you using?

Hi,

Thanks andysmi, you're right, it doesn't appear in the available MIDI devices list in the Control Panel.

How can I select it as the "preferred" MIDI device?

I need to select it as the default MIDI device, because the software I'm using can only output MIDI music through the default device.

This is the setup I have:

- ScummVM 0.9.1 (to play the games)
- Roland Virtual Sound Canvas VST (to emulate a Roland SC-55)
- SAVIHost (to load the VST)
- MIDI Yoke NT (to redirect the output from ScummVM into SAVIHost)

When I was using Windows XP 32 bit, everything worked very well because I could choose "MIDI Yoke NT: 1" as the default MIDI device, but now under XP x64 I can't Sad

Kind regards.
